Press Release: The Cuts to Medicare Begin
Washington D.C. – The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced Monday that it will be freezing the 2011 capitation rates at 2010 levels. This “freeze” is the result of President Obama’s healthcare bill that promised not to cut Medicare benefits. In reaction to the CMS announcement, U.S. Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite (FL-05) made the following statement:
“The healthcare bill passed just two weeks ago and Medicare benefits are already under attack. This freeze is a cut because the Obama Administration didn’t magically lower the cost of healthcare. When reimbursements are cut without any noticeable change in cost, benefits are cut. Democrats have been making this argument for years. I do not doubt the President’s magical powers, but unless he allakhazamed inflation, this a cut to Medicare benefits — a serious one. That is the bottom line. ”
